Well it hasn’t quite worked out that way but we have managed one exploration/adventure this month.
On a lovely sunny Winter’s day we took “Tonto” on an outing to The Blue Lakes near Guizengeard.
Didn’t quite look this Blue the day we visited but a fascinating spot. After a pleasant if at times boggy walk up through undulating woodlands we emerged out alongside the first “lake”. The site was a former kaolin quarry where the white earth was extracted for use in porcelain, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. The old quarries filled with rainwater over time and the acidic water prevents the growth of aquatic life allowing these colours to reflect.
Back down at our parking spot we explored the lovely little old church which claims to have the oldest surviving Charente church bell from the 1400’s!! The cemetery also had a bit of age to it.
Having (foolishly) said that maybe we were in for a mild winter?! The second half of January has thrown up some minus degree days, down to -5 on a few occasions. But magical sparkling frost always precedes clear bright days. Thanks to Tricia for the fab photos.
And with that “It’s goodnight from me and goodnight from him”😊
Great pics Sue. Looks cold!
These frosty mornings are still a novelty Rob😊 not a problem when you no longer have to get up early and feed livestock!
Beautiful photos giving great impressions of your experiences
Thanks Judy, hope you’re both keeping well?
Looks very cold Sue as we are now entering a heat waive and having afternoon siestas while so hot!
Enjoy your siestas Liz😉
