Mid September in our neck of the woods means it’s time for the Angouleme Circuit des Remparts,a 3 day motoring extravaganza.

We had no intention of going but with big bro’ Dave visiting it needed checking out! So glad that we did. On the Friday we headed down to Angoulême to take in the atmosphere of the evening floodlit Concours d’élégance.

Deciding against a seated view amongst the throng in the Champ de Mars we chose a pavement cafe to quench the thirst on a warm, sultry evening and grab a bite to eat, little realizing that we would be alongside the marshalling area for the cars. Not the best photos under the streetlights but certainly an opportunity to appreciate the vibe.

The following morning was the rally around some 160kms of the Charente, with sections for vintage, classic up to present day vehicles. Having tried unsuccessfully to find some info on the route to be taken, all was revealed when we spoke with one of the participants in our local supermarket car park! It seems that the route is only revealed on the morning of the rally to those taking part, so we were none the wiser when we headed into our local village for the usual weekend shop and stumbled across dozens and dozens of cars streaming into Aigre for a coffee stop. 😂 A great opportunity to have a closer look at the huge variety and age of automobiles.

Gotta love à deux chevaux

And the Jaguar on the Jaguar

Just a few general shots with everyone parked in our local square and grabbing some refreshments in the Salle de Fêtes

.

Love how people dress up to suit the era of their car, reminiscent of Goodwood Revival.

This beautiful Vauxhall over from England took pride of place in front of the Mairie.

Chris needed a closer look!

So now we have a better idea of what the Circuit des Remparts is all about, next year we’ll get tickets for the Sunday races around the old ramparts of Angoulême.
