I read this morning that the floods in some areas of France are the worst in a generation. We were hoping this wasn’t an annual occurrence! Not that we’ve been hit hard nor as the rain been prolonged? But our little waterways must be trying to cope with the deluge elsewhere.

Our usual walk into Aigre along the riverbanks is currently out of bounds, even the back road is “inondee “. Glad to say that though the garden is a bit soggy and we’ve discovered a bit of a leak around the Velux window, the weather hasn’t bothered us – other than spending a bit more time indoors than usual.

An English Gentleman out for a stroll😊
Bit further around the corner
Our normally sedate little stretch of water
Our local picnic spot, footbridge on the left to a little island- somewhere!

So as we’ve been inside a bit we’ve been trying (not too successfully) to improve our French. We haven’t due to Covid been able to hook up with any conversation groups locally as planned, so instead we found these “teachers “. Each afternoon we tune into a French version of The Bidding Room, a great way of hearing the language (Chris has all the monetary amounts spot on now😂). Also an opportunity to see some of the great items that can be picked up at brocantes, etc. As you can see the regular panel of experts are pretty easy on the eye!

Sold for 175 euros!?

Hopefully come summer we’ll be able to get out to the regular antique markets and fairs, would love to pick up a bronze by one of the brilliant French sculptors.
