The sun has been out for two days following now, creating the urge to get outside and do something!
We’re so lucky to be “social distancing “ in the countryside and with a decent sized garden full of fruit trees and vegetable patches there’s always something to do. Today we gathered fallen branches and twigs scattered amongst the massed clumps of daffodils before setting alight to two bonfires – no restrictions and no chance of fire getting away in the lush, damp green grass. A real novelty!

The ground had dried out enough to mow the lawn so all in all a satisfying days work. Fingers crossed for another dry day tomorrow. 😊☀️

Geez – you guys are almost self sufficient there with the fruit trees and veggie patch – you just need a few chickens now. I’ve noticed how quiet the countryside is now, nature flourishing. Loads of new Mallard ducklings and lots more birds around, saw a red squirrel (endangered species) and a Heron, lots of baby rabbits too. This is what country living must have been like 200 years ago – the noisiest thing being a church bell in the distance or a mooing cow…
It’s great Dave that you’re able to enjoy some countryside walking, nothing better for the soul. Didn’t realise you had red squirrels 🐿 in Jersey?!
Yes we’re learning to make use of local rations and a well stocked freezer. Hope you have a good supply of iron rations? xx
Well Sue, it sounds as though you are well enough away from what is going on elsewhere! But no Badminton or racing – how will one cope – and no Epsom Derby!!!!!!! Everything here is a bit chaotic and all doom and gloom in the media. We just try to restrict ourselves to shop once a week and are buying a lot of food online now which is good. We are pretty self sufficient and loads of work to do around the farm now so not doing nothing. I have four Charolais calves which I am feeding every day and they are getting quite friendly. They have to make do for a horse! Also a great opportunity to catch up with the gardening and reading books. Golf officially stopped today in Corowa so that is sad for us ladies!!!!! Racing continues here at present but it really is on a knife edge and we have Cliffy ready to run in a very good race in three weeks – doubt if it will happen now. Take good care of yourselves.
Hi Liz, yes our afternoon tv treat is restricted to the new series of Escape to the Château! Putting the dream on hold for a bit longer yet.
Felt sure you would have plenty to keep you occupied, would love to see a photo of your calves. Have they got names or are you going to eat them? ( Never name anything you intend to eat😊)
Is racing continuing minus the public? Pity about Cliffys plans.
